Yasiel Puig, the “Bronco” who helped Kiwoom reach the Korean Baseball Organization's 2022 Korean Series, is returning to Asia.

“Puig said goodbye to the Venezuelan Winter League, where he played until recently, on social media,” US current affairs weekly Newsweek reported today (July 7).

In analyzing the reasons behind Puig's departure, Newsweek quoted a Venezuelan journalist as saying, “Puig is set to sign with an Asian baseball team.”

The news sparked speculation of Puig's return, with fans speculating that his Asian league destination could be South Korea.

Yusef Diaz, a reporter for the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), 카지노사이트 also tweeted on social media that Puig would return to the KBO's Kiwoom.

However, Kiwoom president Ko Hyung-wook explained in a call with KBS, “We recently spoke to Puig to say hello, but we are not close to signing a contract or signing him.”

He added, “I have heard through articles that Puig is close to signing with an Asian League team.”

Kiwoom, who had Ronnie Dawson's breakout season right after the All-Star break, will need to find a new foreign bat in Stovrig after Dawson was ruled out until next June due to injury.

Puig, a former teammate of Ryu Hyun-jin's with the Los Angeles Dodgers and who has a reputation as a major league bad boy, was a key part of Kiwoom's batting lineup in 2022, batting .277 with 21 home runs and 73 RBIs, with a combined on-base percentage (.368) and slugging percentage (.474) of .841.

Puig has since attempted to return to the major leagues, but his return to the big leagues has been derailed by controversy over allegations of illegal sports gambling during his time in the majors and false statements he made in a prosecutor's investigation.

Puig played in the Mexican and Venezuelan leagues in 2023 and 2024.
